Amaryllis flowers are easy to grow. Since they take between six to eight weeks to flower, a good time to plant the bulbs would be in mid- to late September in order for them to flower for Christmas.

You can keep Amaryllis bulbs forever. If you already have a flowered Amaryllis and you aren't sure what to do with it, its easy to store and keep it for several future years. 

• Once the flowers start to die, cut the stocks, and leaves all the way down to the top of the bulb. 

• Next, remove it from the pot, and shake off the soil from its roots. 

• Find a dark, cool place and a place the bulb in a paper bag. I usually store mine under my kitchen sink. 

• Leave it there until mid to late September. 

When it is time to re-plant the bulbs, you will need some soil or compost, water,  a pot, and a sunny window. 

• Soak the bulbs in water for a few hours to rehydrate them. 
• Fill a small pot with soil or compost and place the bulb inside. These flowers like to be root bound, so try to find a container that isn't too big. 
• Water and place in a dark, warm place until shoots emerge. 
• Place in a sunny window and water regularly.
