My little concrete garden 2022
Have this thread on Pyssel iFokus, where I show what´s going on in my little garden on the balcony.
Yesterday I went through all my seeds and choose what to sow.
Guess wich was most important to get done 🤔
Hostess at Bead Craft

Not a clue if it isn't what I think. 😁

Hmm let me guess, the katt mynta/cat nip? Or perhaps that is cat grass, I can't tell.
No, but really, I would think the tomato seeds as they need to be able to grow enough to produce fruit while it is hot and sunny?
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
The catgrass was most important( atleast for little BOSS) I did sow some tomato seeds one thats called "Tiny Tim" it gives small delicious tomatoes and then one that´s called "Tigerella" it gives you striped tomatoes red/yellow.
The catnip(kattmynta) is a plant that I had for atleast 10 years.
Hostess at Bead Craft

Oh striped tomatoes, I wonder if they taste different than the usual ones do. Is it easy for you to grow tomatoes on your balcony? Do you have any tips for pest control? I always seem to get nasty pests on my tomato plants.
One of cats always tries to eat my plants, so I tried growing cat grass for her in the past to try to get her to eat that instead but she wouldn't touch it. So I never tried to grow the catnip (even though they both love dried catnip), but maybe I will try soon.
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
The hardest part for me i s before the get so big that I can put them out on the balcony.
For pest control I use green soft soap (grön såpa) and water. You can also put some matches in the pot wit the black end in the soil.
I have a lot of fun stuff on my small balcony. Like herbs (parsley, chive, oregano) Strawberries(smultron) Lime, kaffirlimette, rhubarb,
Översättningsresultat
gooseberry (2 different Yellow and green krusbär) 2 diffrent sorts white and red currants (röda och vita vinbär)
And not to forget a big pot of catnip and one big box of cat grass hanging on the railing.
I will show some pictures next week after the springcleaning of the little garden.
Hostess at Bead Craft

That sounds like a productive balcony garden! Would love to see a picture of how you set it up.
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine

#6: How often do you spray with the green soap water? And that matches don't hurt the plant growth? I've never head of that before, it sounds interesting.
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
Spraying with the soapwater a couple of times a week, if needed and doing it early in the morning, before the sun comes around to my balcony.
Hostess at Bead Craft

I have heard of using matches for pest control several times but never tried it myself. I think it is the sulphur they don’t like.
Best regards, Niklas 🎈
You are right Niklas. I usually put two matches with the sulphurend down on opposite side of the pot maybe more if the pot is big.
Hostess at Bead Craft

#10: Do you know how long they last or how fast you see results?
Best regards, Niklas 🎈
#11 No I can´t remeber, my memory is very bad. I will make a note next time I use that trick.
Hostess at Bead Craft
They are alive :) My Tiny Tim Tomatoes are growing
Hostess at Bead Craft

Congrats! How cute 🌱
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
Did stick a post-it near the window, to remind me to water them 😄
Hostess at Bead Craft

Stick another note beside it that says “you have tomatoes, pick them if they are red”.
Best regards, Niklas 🎈
It´s just when I have plants in the kitchenwindow I need Help to remember, since I have some curtains in the lower part of the window. To prevent people to see straight in my kichten
Hostess at Bead Craft

You could also put a weekly alarm/reminder on your phone to remind you as an extra reminder.
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
It´s good this way, because I see that note every morning when I make my coffe.
Hostess at Bead Craft
Today I did move the chive from its small container to its big pot. But since it´s to cold to put it out on the balcony I needed a tray beneath the pot. And that is not easy to find, due to the shape of the pot.
So I was looking through and thinking about what I could use. So here´s todays DIY project. Had a plastic tray that I got some meat in and look it was the perfect size for the pot. So I did cut it down and here´s the finished project.
Hostess at Bead Craft

It fits well! Hope the chives will love it
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine

#16 red?
Dont you know that there are yellow tomatoes and dark lily tomatoes?
There are also tomatoes with two colors. They are striped.
There are also a lot of different shapes.
My website: American version
Min hemsida: Svensk version

#22: Yes, I do know. But Tiny Tim tomatoes are red. 🙂
Best regards, Niklas 🎈
Flis always reminded me of picking the tomatoes.
just because she wanted them. Yes this one was yellow. Can´t remember it´s name
Hostess at Bead Craft
Today it looks like this in my kitchen window. I did relocate two of the Tiny Tim to their own small pot. So the four to the left is Tiny Tim. Two of them are relocating to my friends garden when they are bigger and it´s warmer out.
Hostess at Bead Craft
Then there is 3 Tigerella tomatoes. They are beautiful to look at whit their stripes and they taste good too.
Hostess at Bead Craft
And in the milkcarton to the right there is parsley
Hostess at Bead Craft
Then we have the chives
Hostess at Bead Craft
And in the blue pot oregano
Hostess at Bead Craft
And here some decorative Solenostemon scutellarioides "Palettblad Rainbow"
Hostess at Bead Craft

They all look happy!
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
I felt really sad for my rhubarb this morning when I looked out, the small leaves were covered with snow.
Hostess at Bead Craft

Hope it will be better soon.
My website: American version
Min hemsida: Svensk version

Rhubarb, at least the ones we have, are good survivors. I think yours will be okay too. 🙂
Best regards, Niklas 🎈
I found some fibercloth, that I couldn´t remember that I had saved, and covered them up. They did survive and today they look like this, they have grown a bit
Hostess at Bead Craft

They seem to be doing fine!
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
To day I had to put my tomatoes in bigger pots.
The 3 on the left is Tiny Tim and the two on the right is Tigerella
Hostess at Bead Craft
Bought the pots yesterday. I got the plastic ones that are 45cm wide at the top. Had to take the black ones, because the brown was gone.
So now closely supervised by little rascal
I have put the gooseberrys( krusbären) in their new pots
Hostess at Bead Craft

Lol it looks like little missy is helping 🤣
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
She is. But in that moment there was a butterfly, she had to look at.
Otherwise it goes in a snailpace out on the balcony.
Lot´s happening in the kitchen window though.
Two tomatoplants(1 Tigerella and 1 Tiny Tim) moved to their new home yesterday.
So here is some pics of what´s left.
Oregano
chives

It takes time, but I´m getting there in my little concretegarden. The bushes loves their new pots.
First out the gooseberrys:
on the left the yellow ones that bush is a bit slower to blossom and to the right the one with green berries
Hostess at Bead Craft
Then I have the white currant. Looks good, like it will have lots of berries
Hostess at Bead Craft
Then we have Miss Alice in her grass and beneath her in the blue pot catnip, and beside that the rhubarb
Hostess at Bead Craft
And in the other box strawberries
The box beneath is empty. But I got a cranberrybush earlier this week, maybe it will find it´s home there?
Hostess at Bead Craft
And the last bush the red currant
Hostess at Bead Craft

Wow everything is really taking off! Looking good
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
It really does. It´s very nice to get out there every morning and just look at it grow.
Hostess at Bead Craft

No black currants? Those are my favorite. 🙂
Best regards, Niklas 🎈
#50 NO. I hate them. Childhood trauma. We had black currants in the yard and I did love them, until I got one with a stink bug(bärfis) on it. Since then🤮🤢
Hostess at Bead Craft
I did plat a cranberry in this box
Hostess at Bead Craft
And my tomatoes and the other plants from the kitchen window is on a daytrip out on the balcony.
This is where I will put my kalamodin and other citrusplants when it´s warm enough for them to be out all the time
Hostess at Bead Craft
Feeling sad and mad. We had some hungry guests on one of the gooseberrybushes😫😫
They ate almost every leaf.
Hostess at Bead Craft
Otherwise everything looks good in the little garden
The white currants
Hostess at Bead Craft
The Tiny Tim tomatoplant (one of them) The other one is still in it´s smaller pot
Hostess at Bead Craft

I’m sorry about the gooseberry! So sad when that happens. The currants look so good though
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
Now I have spayed every bush with the green soft soap(grönsåpvatten) just as a precaution, since the bushes stand so close to each other.
There will be some berries on the gooseberrybush, despite the missing leafs
Hostess at Bead Craft
I took some new pics of my little garden. I have rearranged some stuff.
First out the gooseberrys
Hostess at Bead Craft
And the other gooseberryplant, without its leaves, but with some berry
Hostess at Bead Craft
The white currants. Will be a good harvest.
And in the pot behind it the chives
Hostess at Bead Craft

Hostess at Bead Craft
And the Tiny Tim tomato

Hostess at Bead Craft
And the red currants. It´s a bit slower than the white ones
Hostess at Bead Craft
Miss Alice approves of the new plants
To the left oregano, in the middle: cali pepper and to the right parsley.
Hostess at Bead Craft

How's the gooseberry doing?
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
Sadly we got hungry visitors on the other gooseberrybush too. I do spray them with the green soap solution, both morning and evening.
There is some berries on them
Hostess at Bead Craft
And the Tiny Tim tomato is blossoming
Hostess at Bead Craft
Found two tomatoes on the Tiny Tim bush.
Hostess at Bead Craft

That's so exciting!!
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
I think the Tigerella tomato got tired 😂
I took one of the branches that supported one of the gooseberries and sraightened the Tigerellaplant and now it´s doing okay
Hostess at Bead Craft
And here´s the other plants
the gooseberries
Hostess at Bead Craft
And my oregano, calipepper and parsley
Hostess at Bead Craft
The Tiny Tim is growing too. Found some new tomatoes on it so now the count is 4
Hostess at Bead Craft
Todays tomatocount on Tiny Tim, found some more so now the total is 13.
Hostess at Bead Craft
Time for some new pictures. This is how my little garden looks today. First the gooseberries. Did pick one red and one green yesterday. Yummy
Hostess at Bead Craft
The white currant, will give a lot
Hostess at Bead Craft
The Tigerella is gettin tall. It´s almost taller than me😉
and in the background on the floor the rhubarb. It isn´t doing to well this year.
Hostess at Bead Craft
And the we have the Tiny Tim. Lots of tomatoes on that plant
Hostess at Bead Craft
And then my mixed box with oregano, calipepper and parsley
Hostess at Bead Craft
And beneath that box, the box with cranberries and leek
Hostess at Bead Craft

Everything looks so good! Some of my tomato plants aren't doing well after the windy stormy weather.
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
I guess I´m lucky to have such a shielded balcony. Lots of tomatoes on the Tiny Tim
Hostess at Bead Craft
Look what I found on my Tiny Tim yesterday, makes me miss Flis more, she loved tomatoes
Hostess at Bead Craft
I and the plants was very happy yesterday. It did rain a LOT. So I didn´t have to carry watering can.
Little rascal was NOT happy. She did jump up in her grassbox, but it was so full of water that the claypellets almost floated out over the rim.
Hostess at Bead Craft
So here is some pics of how it´s g(r)o(w)ing today
Not happy: The gooseberries. The got another wave of hungry guests😥😥😥
Hostess at Bead Craft
The Tigerella tomato is growing so tall that it´s almost visiting the nieghbours above. Next year I will put that plant closer to the wall, so it will be easier to tie it up
Hostess at Bead Craft
The white currants is giving a lot of berries
Hostess at Bead Craft
And Tiny Tim delivers alot of tomatoes
Hostess at Bead Craft
And the box with oregano/Calipepper/parsley
I have harvested both oreagno and parsley a time or two.
And the calipepper is blooming
Hostess at Bead Craft
And the box with cranberries and leek
Hostess at Bead Craft
- Edited by Marinas Mix 2022-08-10, 11:01
The red currants, not happy= no berries 😥😥😥
Hostess at Bead Craft

Oh no! Why do you think it isn't happy? Not enough sun or fertiliser?
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
It was the same when we moved here. I guess it´s because I changed the soil and pot to late in the spring.
Hostess at Bead Craft
- Edited by Marinas Mix 2022-08-15, 11:26
Look at my calipepper
Hostess at Bead Craft

Looking good! When will it get ripe you think?
Host of Apartment Gardening | Ashtanga Yoga | Literature | Migraine
Hard to tell. Maybe let it be for a couple of weeks more.
Hostess at Bead Craft
look at this beauty: Tigerella
Hostess at Bead Craft
I´ve harvested some Tiny Tim today. That makes me miss Flis who loved tomatoes.
Hostess at Bead Craft
Sadly it´s time to d the fall cleaning on the balcony, but I wonder if I shall try to replant the calipepper in a bigger pot and se if it likes to be inside, there is some peppers and flowers on it
Hostess at Bead Craft
I´m amazed by my calipepper look at that fruit. It still growing, despite the chilly nights
Hostess at Bead Craft
And the parsley is coming around too
Hostess at Bead Craft
and the oregano in the other end of the box
Hostess at Bead Craft

Im impressed that your garden is still growing outside. I took my pepper and tomato plants inside and they are on their last leg. I think they have reached maturity. But I still have some oregano, thyme, romaine, and rosemary growing happily inside and mint outside.
