Have you started your spring garden?

2019-04-07 16:00 #0 by: Evelina

The weather in Stockholm has been a little bit nicer! Feeling a bit more like spring ☺️🌸🌱

So I decided to clean my balcony and get rid of any thing that needed to be thrown away, like dead plants etc.

I will be gone this summer for an internship, so I won’t be doing a lot of gardening this season.

I planted a few flowers which are easy to take care of, as well as some Dahlia bulbs. And that is all I will be doing out there. I don’t want to make it to much work for my boyfriend while I am gone. 😅

Oh they are so pretty! I never knew you could grow peaches in this climate. I hope your tree grows a bunch of them! Peaches and nectarines are my favourite fruit Laughing

#5: Many years back I heard about the hill north of Hagaparken (in Stockholm). It used to be a dump where they left household garbage. At one time they found a peach tree growing there, and I think hey said it had peaches. Someone’s thrown away peach core had grown into a tree. 🙂

I like my own trees. I use cores from a lot of trees and have this peach tree , and a walnut tree, some appel trees and a lot of other. When or if they  give fruits, I will see what kind of trees I have. Laughing

Here are some photos from last year and in the top of the thread you can see something about my walnut tree.

Come June I will be moving back home for a short while with my mother, she has recently moved into a flat and we have full ownership of this garden. Do you have any inexpensive ideas of garden activities we could do with it?

Build a miniature golf course and surround it with flowers and green plants. 😀

#9 I would definately start small but with something rewarding, It looks like that spot gets a lot of sun. Are you interested in growing some veggies, fruit or flowers?

I would reccommend:

Spring bulbs, such as Dahlias. You must plant these soon, they are inexpensive and you can preserve the bulbs for next year after the summer.

Zucchini or cucumber from a plant is quite easy to grow. Just get a bigger pot for it and something for the wine to grow on. Or a paprika plant which would take a smaller pot- they like a lot of sun too.

For fruit, you can try something like raspberries. They need a large pot But they are cut back after the summer/fall to be grown again next year.

#12: Blackberries also like sun, grow larger and should be cut down after bearing fruit. I like them better. 😀

They are great with merengue ice cream and for making jam.

#10 I love that it's a blank canvas and minimal effort, no need for a lawnmower!

#11 That is an amazing idea, I love it!

#12 Thank you for your suggestions, the specifics are just what I needed to hear! I think I will combine this with Niklas' idea. Let's just hope my mum approves.
